Is There an IPTV Service With DVR Built In?
Not in the way cable has one. An IPTV playlist delivers live streams and a guide; it has no cloud DVR of its own, so recordings you keep are made on your device or your own server. Cloud DVR, where recordings sit on the provider's servers, is a feature of licensed live TV streaming services rather than of IPTV playlists.

Setting Up IPTV DVR with Plex (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Install Plex Media Server
- 1Download Plex Media Server from plex.tv/media-server-downloads (free).
- 2Install on your Windows, Mac, or Linux PC.
- 3Open Plex in your browser at localhost:32400/web.
- 4Create a free Plex account and link your server.

Step 2: Add Apollo Group TV Through Threadfin
Plex only talks to network tuners, so an M3U playlist has to be presented to it as one. Threadfin, a free M3U proxy built for Plex DVR, does that job.
- 1Install Threadfin on the same server (a Docker image is published; its web interface uses port 34400).
- 2In Threadfin, add your Apollo Group TV M3U URL as a playlist and your EPG URL as an XMLTV file.
- 3Set the number of tuners in Threadfin to the number of connections on your plan.
- 4Open the Mapping page, keep the channels you want, and match each one to its guide entry.
- 5In Plex, go to Settings → Live TV & DVR and click Set Up Plex DVR.
- 6Plex scans the network and should list Threadfin as a tuner; if not, enter the server address and port manually.
- 7When asked for guide data, choose the XMLTV option and paste the XMLTV address Threadfin shows, then confirm the channel list.
Step 3: Configure Recording Storage

- 1Open the Admin Dashboard and select Live TV.

Emby (Emby Premiere)

How Much Storage Does an IPTV DVR Need?
Recordings are saved at the bitrate of the stream, so size follows a simple rule: every 1 Mbps of bitrate fills about 0.45 GB per hour. Use the table to size the drive for how much you keep.

Why Did a Scheduled Recording Fail?
Most missed recordings come down to one of five causes. Check them in this order.
Someone was already watching
A recording uses a connection just like live viewing. If the server records while another TV streams, that is two connections. Either cap the server at one stream or choose a plan that covers more devices.
The server went to sleep
Turn off sleep and hibernation on the server PC or NAS. Emby also has an option to wake the server for scheduled recordings.
The program was never in the guide
A channel that is not mapped to guide data has no listings to schedule against. Remap it, or set a manual time-based recording.
The drive filled up
Set the server to delete the oldest recordings, or keep only the newest few episodes of each series.
The playlist address changed
After a renewal or new login, update the M3U and EPG URLs in Threadfin, Emby or Jellyfin, then refresh the guide.
