Landman dropped on Paramount+ and quickly became the kind of prestige US drama that Canadian viewers wanted to watch too. Billy Bob Thornton plays Tommy Norris, a fast-talking fixer working for an independent oil company in the Permian Basin of West Texas. Created by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Tulsa King), it carries the DNA of Sheridan's best work — working-class grit, moral complexity, and exceptional character writing.

The show follows Tommy Norris, a "landman" — an oil industry term for the person who brokers deals for drilling rights, handles legal disputes and manages the human chaos around a working oil field. Thornton plays Tommy with the kind of weary pragmatism he has built a career on, navigating impossible situations between roughnecks, wildcatters, drug cartels and corporate executives.

The supporting cast includes Ali Larter, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore and Michelle Randolph. Season 1 ran ten episodes, and a second season — also ten episodes — aired weekly from November 2025 through January 2026.

Landman is a Paramount+ exclusive, and that holds true in Canada — it isn't on Crave, Netflix, or Amazon Prime Video's base catalog. Is Landman Worth Watching?

For fans of Taylor Sheridan's previous work, absolutely. Landman has a slightly different tone than Yellowstone — more overtly comedic in places, more interested in the mundane bureaucracy of the oil industry — but it has the same underlying fascination with American capitalism and working-class survival.

Billy Bob Thornton gives one of his best TV performances. Jon Hamm is reliably excellent. If you watched and enjoyed Yellowstone, Tulsa King or 1883, Landman is essential viewing.
